Running Update

While I was away over the holidays, I'm happy to report that I upheld my running end of Team CB. (The healthy eating end, not so much.) I think I ran a total of 5 times, and I have the shiny, pretty stars on my wall chart check list to prove it. Some of this includes going to the gym with my dad to run on the treadmill, but I also ran most of the way around the block where my parents live. These are country roads, so around the block actually adds up to over 5 miles! I'm talking intervals of running/walking. I'm no where near to the point where I could run all of it without walking breaks.
Of course then I got back home on New Years Day and promptly did no running until Friday, when out of desparation I joined a gym. Because I am whimpy about running in yucky weather. We got snow here in Edinburgh! What's with that?

The reason I was feeling kind of desparate was because one of the things that came in the mail while I was gone was this:

It's my entry number, timing chip, and race-day information for the BUPA Great Winter Run. I look at this and I wonder what I was thinking signing up for a 5K race! Yeah, yeah, if I'd actually stuck with my training schedule, I would be prepared, but all those weeks of only running twice instead of three times means just running for 10 minutes straight (the longest I've run without a walk break) is still quite the challenge.

So I'm trying to remind myself that just by running I win. Obviously, I'll be taking walk breaks. But, I still get nervous every time I think about it. What was I thinking!?!?

I wish I could be there to cheer you on, but I'm pretty sure my advisor is going to nail my butt to a chair when I get back and force me to write a chapter of my diss before I can be set free. I will be only a phone call/email away though if you want to chat.

Don't worry about your time or how much you end up walking, just get out there and do it. Good luck!

You were thinking you needed a boot in the ass to keep you out there running. So there it is.

We'll be jumping up and down on the sidelines cheering you on. I know you can do it!

Elephants in Edinburgh. What's the world coming too. Thanks for the picture.

Theresa that is so cool!
Um, hopefully not literally.
I am impressed that you used a group run as a training motivator. I bet that a lot of people have had trouble keeping to their training schedules in this weather. I agree with Christina. Don't worry if you end up walking -- we're going to be cheering you on!

Good luck tomorrow, Theresa! I look forward to hearing all about it. :)

Theresa - I'm assuming you're not in this race to beat anyone's time? So - you've already won, by getting yourself registered, by training (even if you weren't perfect) and by (I hope) getting there tomorrow!

Congratulations, it's a brave thing to do, and, I hope, you'll enjoy it.

I'm impressed that you decided to do this and are going through with it. Go, Dr. T!

We will be with you in spirit, even if we're actually still in bed. But we'll be thinking of you.

Good luck Theresa. Just do your best that is all anyone can ask of you. Anything you accomplish is a plus.
You realize that men running in kilts will answer the age old question for us so be on alert. You are doing research for the women of the world. ;-)

Got the parcel today. How kind you are. Thank you

Go out there, have a good time and walk/run at your own pace. You do Team CB proud. And take pictures if you can. Cause a 5k in Scotland is so much more interesting to me* than one in Canada.

Have fun. Meet new people. Have fun!

I'm sorry we can't be on the sidelines in reality, but we'll be there in spirit. As you run down the street, picture us on the sidelines holding up a virtual sign that reads
Go Team CB! Yay Theresa!!!
