Weekly Running (and Dancing) Log

I have to admit that I only went running twice this week. So why, you might ask, do I have three stars at the top of this post? Because last night was the annual Christmas Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee), and there was dancing! Specifically, Scottish country dancing with a live band that included a bag piper. Some men even wore kilts to the party! I danced maybe half the dances, but after each one, my heartrate was up, my face was red, and I was sweating. As this is what happens when I run, I figure it counts as a workout, albeit a very enjoyable one. So I say that I earned three stars this week!

Today was my second run of the week. I ran for intervals of 3 min running, 1 min walking, and I could definitely tell that I've been taking it easy over the past few weeks. I think I've lost just a bit of my cardio-vascular fitness gains. So I when I was running, it was verrrry sloooowly. Seriously, the swans were swimming faster than I was running. But I was running, and I felt pretty good when I finished. Next week I'm determined to get my three runs in.

As you may have guessed by my mention of the swans, today's run was down by the canal. There were three swans today. I actually saw one of them fly in. Have you ever seen a swan fly? They are BIG. There was also a new kind of duck (black and white). This is the second time I've seen this duck, so maybe it's going to stick around for a while. Tomorrow I'm going to try for a walk down by the canal with my camera, to see if I can get any pictures of our new wildlife.

And now, off to go Christmas shopping!

WooHoo. The dancing definitely counts. I've made that my exercise for the horrible snowy too cold to go outside without risking frostbite days. Swans are amazing to watch. I'm envious. All we have on our canal are seagulls and Canadian Geese.

Shopping might also count if you go at it the same way we do. Sometimes you have to be athletic to avoid the full body contact at this time of year.

Hehehe. Full contact shopping. Can so relate!

Yes, the dancing counts. You know what else? Joy is good for you. Running never gave me any joy, but dancing, ahhh, yes!

Does your crib have room for the video game Dance Dance Revolution? Much fun and cardio gains.

Yay Theresa! Dancing so does count. Too bad I never do it. Not coordinated enough to not embarrass myself even when alone.

So I take it you are also getting crap-tastic weather. Could do nothing at all today. Maybe tomorrow...

The shopping part of the shopping wasn't too bad. Successfully found desired gifts for mom and dad by unexpectedly stumbling across a shop I didn't know was there, which was very close to one of the shops I was purposefully heading for.

It was the walking between shops in the slushy snow, in my sliders rather than boots, dodging cars, that was the workout.

Craptastic weather indeed. And rain all day today, it looks like.

ltl, I haven't heard of Dance Dance Revolution, but it sounds like something to look into for these dreary, dreary days.

Go Theresa!
I've run out of excuses for not running, so I had to go tonight. I think dancing (especially with men in kilts who happen to look like Gerard Butler) would be an acceptable alternative exercise ;)

Merry Christmas, Theresa! There is a wise old saying, "In the darkness there are CherryBombs," and tonight, one of the longest nights of the year, we CBs are out blog caroling, pushing back the winter darkness by spreading holiday cheer. Before we came to see you, we were sharing peace and joy over here: http://deeceetalks.blogspot.com/

This song made me think of both you and Christina:

I'll Be Home for Christmas

"I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me . . ."

Hope you enjoy your holiday in the states!

I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.

Theresa, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas at home with your family.

I think this is where I leave you, CBs. If we do this again next year, maybe we'll have to start in the morning and make it an ongoing all day event. Sheesh. I'm worn out and my throat is sore from all the singing.

Lead on, MacDuff, um, I mean, McB.

There's just something about being in Scotland . . .

Next year it is.

If you all continue, I'll catch up in the morning.

Oxford and then Canada. We can skip me (not her) as I haven't freshened the place up in a while

You are home for Christmas.
Christmas cards all in a row
Which made me think of your ducks along the canal
Many pounds ago

Keep dancing, Merry Christmas and all the joy the season brings

Happy Holidays, Theresa.

GP and I aren't so good at the newer songs. But I can add a moderately appropriate line from an older one -

Nine ladies dancing, eight maids a-milking, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, Five Golden Rings....

Merry Christmas, Theresa!

Frosty the Snowman
Was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal

Frosty the Snowman
Is a fairytale they say
He was made of snow
But the children know
How he came to life one day

There must have been some magic
In that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around

Frosty the Snowman
Was alive as he could be
And the children say
He could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me

Frosty the Snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said let's run
And we'll have some fun
Now before I melt away

Down to the village
With a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there all around the square
Saying catch me if you can

He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler stop

Frosty the Snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye
Saying don't you cry
I'll be back again some day

Thumpety thump thump
Thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go
Thumpety thump thump
Thumpety thump thump
Over the hills of snow

Awww, you guys are the best! What beautiful voices you all have. I love Christmas carols.

Merry Christmas, CBs!

Theresa, thanks for the Christmas caroling! My computer crashed the other night (I think at McB's site) and I have not had access to a computer since then. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and take care of yourself over there in a far away land!

Fa la la la la la!

So what interesting thing did you do this week that you couldn't do anywhere else in the world? :)

I power walked 25 laps around the store yesterday, and took the dog for a run along the canal.

Today I will rearrange furniture. That's usually a good workout.
